On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Kauai County Council voted 7-0 in favor of adopting the (community-driven) Kilauea Safe Routes to School Resolution.  The resolution will prohibit school drop-off and pick-up activity on Kamali‘i Street (creating a remote drop off.)

The modifications also create a pedestrian path and bike lane in conjunction with a two-way vehicle lane.

This pilot project of community involvement is a true testament to the power of community-driven design processes and the awesome outreach done by the Kilauea School Action Group, the Engineering division at Kauai’s Public Works (Michael Moule and his team), and Planning Department (Lee Steinmetz).
